Kim McGowan, a licensed mental health counselor, is the owner of Ponte Vedra Counseling, LLC, a private practice that has served St. Johns County and neighboring areas for more than ten years. She earned her undergraduate degree in Communications with honors from the University of Iowa and achieved her Masters in Mental Health Counseling with the highest distinction from Capella University. With over twenty years of experience in the field of psychology, her background spans from community-based treatment programs to private practice settings.
A resident of Nocatee since 2011, Ms. McGowan established Ponte Vedra Counseling in 2014 after working at another private practice in Duval County for three years. Upon her move, she actively engaged with the community, volunteering on the PTO Board of Directors and organizing fundraisers for the St. Johns County School District where her three children were enrolled. She also served as the Mental Health Liaison for Ponte Vedra High School, with two of her children having graduated from there. Her youngest will complete her senior year at Nease High School in the 2024/2025 academic year. Meanwhile, her oldest son attends FAU, and her middle son will start at UNF in the fall of 2024. While excited about their futures, she shares the sentiment of dreading the empty nest, a feeling shared by many in her circle.
Looking ahead, Ms. McGowan has two primary goals in her career. First, she aims to expand her practice thoughtfully by selecting clinicians who share her vision of a fully collaborative approach, involving various healthcare professionals like medical doctors, psychiatrists, specialized practices, and holistic providers, all dedicated to providing the highest levels of care and compassion to clients. Second, she intends to pursue ongoing education in advanced trauma techniques, enabling her to offer a wide range of therapeutic interventions and create highly personalized treatment plans for her clients.
Kim is a licensed mental health counselor with over 2 decades of experience. Her primary area of expertise and passion is in trauma work. She has advanced certifications in Trauma Recovery as well as completion of EMDR training (and has been practicing EMDR since 2019). Kim provides individual services to adolescents (14+) and adults, couples (of all types), and family therapy. She’s confident in working with challenging and diverse issues, severe disorders, and unique cases.
Her extensive experience working with trauma informs how she approaches this field as a whole. Her clients say she is real and authentic as a professional and as a person.
Kim’s therapeutic approach, while utilizing the most recent research in evidence-based treatment protocols, is also at its core rooted in demonstrating respect and value for everyone’s unique life stories and working from within those frameworks. She helps clients identify both strengths and obstacles in developing a pathway for personal growth, leading to a healthier, happier, more peaceful version of themselves.

Emily is available for immediate consultation to explain the process and expected outcomes of Rolfing and to determine eligibility for treatment. Emily’s focus as a practitioner is to help alleviate the pain holistically that her clients are experiencing due to both physical and emotional trauma.
Differing from massage therapy, which tends to focus on relaxation and relief of muscle discomfort, Rolfing improves overall body alignment and functioning. Even deep tissue massage, which can focus on problematic areas of the body, does not have the same overall effect of total system alignment and structural organization one can achieve through Rolfing practices. With Rolfing, chronic strain patterns are eliminated, recovery time is decreased, and the overall range of motion is increased.
By partnering with mental health practitioners, Rolfing can greatly reduce systemic pain associated with trauma. Emily will work closely with our team of mental health practitioners to deliver comprehensive service focusing on the mind-body connection. Emily has a deep appreciation for mental health and her desire to promote overall well-being radiates from within when working with her clients.
Emily offers in-home services, and maintains a business location at:
